Agreements
Kaleo consists of people from a wide variety of backgrounds and places. We have people from different campuses, spiritual journeys, cultures, family upbringings, etc. This is a great thing! Over the years, we have learned that in order to give everyone their best potential experience for the summer, it is helpful if we all agree upon a few items. As it has been said, “Teamwork makes the dream work.” With that, here are those items that we ask that you commit to upon attending Kaleo!
Let’s lookout for each other and make Kaleo safe for everyone.
Gulf Shores and Foley are, in general, very safe and comfortable places to be. In order to keep Kaleo that way for us, let’s stay away from clubs and bars and from telling any locals or co-workers where we live for the summer. Ladies, if you are out at night, take jogging for example, make sure you have a friend out there with you.
Let's represent Christ well to each other and to the community.
It’s a cool opportunity to represent Christ well to our friends at Kaleo and to our friends in the community. God uses our Christlike example in some powerful ways. Let’s strive to honor God with our appearance, so we can point people to Jesus! Fellas, let’s keep our shirts on while around the condos. Ladies, let’s embrace wearing the one-piece swimsuit (tankinis are appropriate as long as stomach is covered). Also, to help ensure people are comfortable in their own rooms at the condo, guys, let’s stick to the guys’ rooms, and ladies, let’s stick to the ladies’ rooms, unless its a group function.
Let's honor our employers.
If for some reason you need to miss work (i.e., sick), talk to the Project Director the night before or early the morning of to help find a solution moving forward for that day. Also, being on time to work each day will be a great way to honor our employers for the summer.
We agree to uphold an environment to best accomplish the goals of Kaleo.
Similar to housing back on campus, let’s pay our rent on time.
Following the project curfew is something we’ll want to do as it’ll help you get your rest. These times will be determined at the beginning of Kaleo! In the rare event someone must leave the project early, please discuss this with the Project Director. Kaleo fees will still need to be paid in full due to our contract with Wolf Bay.
Wolf Bay is very nice! Let’s do our best to be great stewards of our rooms, and let’s stay in our rooms each night of Kaleo. Other people being in and out would take away from the summer experience. Also, our contract with Wolf Bay does not let any outside guests stay in our rooms overnight. We’ll keep the late nights just to our roommates.
While there are plenty of great people at Kaleo, let’s keep Kaleo relationships at the friendship level for the summer and not begin any new dating relationships while at Kaleo. This allows everyone to enjoy each other without any potential added pressure. Relationships that existed before the summer are great.
The ocean and beach here are beautiful. However, at times the water can be rough. Let’s be sure to follow the flag warning system (green: all swimming is allowed, yellow: swim with caution, purple: marine pests, red: no swimming).
While pets and video games can provide great sources of love and entertainment, let’s keep our pets and video games at home for summer. This will honor your roommates, as well.
A few items we don't expect but for the sake of clarity:
Student Mobilization does reserve the right to release a student from the project. Promiscuous behavior, drugs, alcohol, and warranted job termination are each reasons for release. However, don’t anticipate that happening.
